During this time, the wedding planner plays a crucial role in ensuring that everything falls into place and creates a memorable day for the wedding couple.

One of the most enjoyable parts of a Punjabi wedding is the Sangeet, where the hosts warmly welcome everyone. The wedding venue is adorned with wedding planners, wedding songs, beautiful decorations, wedding cakes, professional photographers, thoughtful gifts, and vibrant performances by the bride and groom's families.

The bride is busy finding the perfect wedding dress, shoes, and hairstyles to look elegant on her big day. The guests are entertained with delicious platters at the reception, making it a truly magical affair.

Let's take a look at the various Punjabi Wedding Rituals:

• Roka: The bride's family visits the groom's place to offer blessings and various gifts, such as fruits, clothes, money, and sweets (known as shagun). The Roka ceremony marks the beginning of the relationship between the two families and usually begins with a small puja called Ardaas.
• Shagun and Chunni: The girl is draped with a chunni and presented with jewelry that her mother and sister-in-law help her wear. Everyone congratulates the couple by feeding them sweets.
• Sangeet: The bride's family hosts a sangeet function where they play the dholak drums and sing songs teasing the groom and his family.
• Mehendi: Before the wedding, the bride and her female family members apply temporary henna (mehndi) tattoos to their hands and feet, beautifully decorated by mehndi artists.

On the wedding day, the rituals at the girl's home begin with the Choora ceremony. The oldest maternal uncle and aunt play an important role in this ceremony. Choora is a set of red and cream ivory bangles gifted by the girl's mama. The girl does not see the choora until she is ready for the marriage. People touch the choora and convey their heartfelt wishes for her future married life.

Vatna involves applying a paste made from turmeric powder and mustard oil all over the bride's body by her female friends and relatives. This is done to enhance her beauty on the most special day of her life.

Like at the bride's home, the groom also undergoes Vatna and Ghara Gharoli rituals, followed by dressing up in his wedding attire. Then, the groom's sister ties the sehra on his head.

After the groom enters the wedding hall, he is led to an elevated stand. At the sacred mahurat, the bride walks in and joins him on the stand. They exchange vermala.

In the post-wedding rituals:

• Vidaai or Doli: The bride bids farewell to her family by tossing puffed rice over her head without turning back.
• Mooh Dikhai: The mother-in-law bestows gifts and jewelry upon the new bride, while other elders bless her and present her with gifts. Usually, the couple returns to the bride's parental home for a day before spending the night together.
• Reception: A grand party is thrown by the groom's family in honor of the newlyweds. Guests come to meet the couple and have a lot of fun.
